‘And we feel content and happiness flows
From the top of our heads to the tips of our toes’
There are hundreds of research papers and studies into the art of happiness, such as the work of Martin Seligman. There’s almost a happiness industry! Many confirm that cultivating positive emotions, accessing our natural ‘flow’ and feeling more comfortable with our individuality (the root comes from the word undivided) contribute to happiness. And Biodanza does make us feel happy!
However, a Biodanza class doesn’t involve adopting strategies or changing our way of life in order to acquire this elusive emotion… Instead, as Richard’s story below illustrates, the vivencia – or dance of life – itself creates the conditions for happiness to blossom. This natural process seeps into our bones and lasts long after the class. Our relationships are enhanced and personal lives become happier and more secure.
Richard’s story of Biodanza
‘When I started Biodanza in 2012 I had never danced in my life or let my body move to its own tune (I would not have known how to hear it!).
I lived very much in my head and had not lived through and with my body. With Biodanza, I felt the ground under my feet and the self security which being grounded brought; the lightness and fluidity in my movement; the fire which burned inside me and which gave me impetus and passion. I became aware of my sensitivity in relation to others in the dance of Biodanza, and experienced showing care to others and being cared for.
Through Biodanza I became more settled and secure in my self and in my relationships. The experience of Biodanza happened deep inside and affected every part of me. As I became more aware of who I was and how I was in the world I became happier and more content. Although nervous going to my first class I felt so welcomed and held by Ruth, the facilitator, that I was able to move and dance in the group; the first time I had done so in my life, at the age of 37!

I very much agree with Richard, although I already enjoyed dancing, I too used to live very much in my head and found that Biodanza helped me to become more integrated with my body and feelings, bringing more joy into my life. I am still enjoying it very much twenty years later!
