In the early 1960’s Rolando Toro discovered that certain kinds of music and dance dramatically improved the wellbeing and Emotional Health of the psychiatric patients under his care in Santiago, Chile.
He went on to develop his discovery into the Biodanza system, which is now practiced worldwide, combining music and expressive dance to create a safe space that enables people to connect with their capacity for health, wellbeing and happiness.
Psychologically Well and Emotionally Aware
Although Rolando Toro’s work is still hardly known in English speaking countries, things are beginning to shift as more translations become available. This week, for example, the English translation of an Italian piece of research on Biodanza and its effects on health has become available.
The study focused on the health effects of doing Biodanza for 1 year and was published by a Psychology and Health Science journal. It recognised the Biodanza system as a health promotion practice that increases psychological wellbeing, emotional awareness, social attachment, and interpersonal relating.

There are some good quotes and ‘takeaways’ if you dare to dive into the scientific and detailed research which could be very useful in sharing to potential institutions and also in what I can ‘vivencial marketing’!
